Benghazi-Gate: A Timeline of Government Deceit, Deception, and Outright Lies

Late yesterday afternoon, in an obvious attempt to rescue President
Obama from what could and should be a brutal round of Sunday shows
examining the cover up the White House is currently engaged in with
respect to the sacking of our consulate in Libya, the Office of the
Director of National Intelligence (DNI) released a statement revising
its assessment of the attack. It is now the official position of the
American intelligence community that what happened in Benghazi was a
pre-planned terrorist attack.The statement comes from Shawn Turner, director of public affairs for National Intelligence -- the office that speaks for the intelligence community as a whole:
As we learned more about the attack, we revised our initial assessment to reflect new information indicating that it was a deliberate and organized terrorist attack carried out by extremists. It remains unclear if any group or person exercised overall command and control of the attack, and if extremist group leaders directed their members to participate.
This is not news. In the last few days, the White House and State Department have both made statements saying exactly that.
This, however, is news and should be read carefully:
In the immediate aftermath, there was information that led us to assess that the attack began spontaneously following protests earlier that day at our embassy in Cairo. We provided that initial assessment to Executive Branch officials and members of Congress, who used that information to discuss the attack publicly and provide updates as they became available. Throughout our investigation we continued to emphasize that information gathered was preliminary and evolving.
There's no question that what we have here is the DNI (Obama appointee James Clapper) attempting to fall on his sword and to put an end to the drumbeat of scandal coming mostly from Republicans and right-of-center media. What's been exposed, just weeks before a presidential election, is the fact that in the aftermath of the Benghazi attack, the White House and State Department knowingly misled and lied to the American people about what they knew and when they knew it.
But what the DNI statement is really meant to do is muddy the waters.
The statement deliberately omits any information as to exactly when the determination was made that Benghazi was indeed a terrorist attack. Most importantly, nothing in the statement contradicts numerous news reports that U.S. officials were certain within 24 hours that they were dealing with a terrorist attack and not a spontaneous protest gone bad.
In other words, the DNI statement is so intentionally vague that it could read as confirmation that our government knew within 24 hours that Benghazi was a terrorist attack and still lied about it for days afterward.

Hundreds of Thousands Flee Democrat-Run California

Due to high taxes, burdensome regulations, lack of public sector reforms, and a lackluster job climate, more people have left California than come to the state since 2005, according to a comprehensive study by the Manhattan Institute released on Tuesday, suggesting California is no longer “perceived by most Americans as the land where dreams come true.”
In the report, titled “The
Great California Exodus: A Closer Look," Tom Gray and Robert
Scardamalia found Californians have fled to states like Texas, Arizona,
Nevada, Colorado, Idaho, South Carolina, and Georgia because those
states have a better economic climate with less taxes and regulation.
The report found that between 1960 and 1990, 4.2 million
Americans moved to California and helped accelerate California’s booming
economy. Since 1990, though, California has lost nearly all of that
gain, with net domestic out-migration averaging 225,00 residents a year.
Between 2000 and 2010, out-migration has resulted in lost income of
5.67 billion to Nevada, $4.96 billion to Arizona, $4.07 to Texas, and
$3.85 billion to Oregon.
The study found that “if all these trends continue,
California may find itself in a situation similar to that of New York
and the states of the midwestern Rust Belt in the last century, which
have seen populations stagnate for decades, or even fall.”
Mitt Romney, on the campaign trail, has often warned that
under four more years of President Barack Obama, the nation could become
more like California. Decades ago, this would have been taken as a
compliment. But, as the report details, it is anything but so today.
Jobs
Californians are leaving for states like Texas because
those states have more jobs and economic opportunity. The report notes
that “more often than not, people move because there is a better
opportunity elsewhere” and “families looking for economic opportunity
travel to Texas now,” where the economy, unlike California’s, has been
“booming.”
Those families had once traveled to
California. But that is no longer so because companies “set up shop
where conditions are more conducive to making a profit.” This also
impacts retirees, who may move to “migrate to be near children who have
taken jobs in another state.” READ MORE
Hollywood y la opción escolar
Hoy se estrena en los cines una nueva película que no podría ser más oportuna. El curso escolar está echando a andar y el sindicato de profesores de Chicago se acaba de convertir en el centro de la atención nacional al intimidar a dicha ciudad con el fin de hacer cumplir sus demandas, a costa de los estudiantes y los contribuyentes.
Es el momento idóneo para una historia como la de Won’t Back Down (No retrocederé), protagonizada por Maggie Gyllenhaal y Viola Davis, interpretando a unas madres que no pueden soportar más el fracaso escolar.
El personaje de Gyllenhaal es una madre soltera que defiende unas mejores oportunidades escolares para su hijo. Davis interpreta a una profesora de la escuela que quiere mejorarla. Se trata de una asociación crucial: padres y profesores trabajando juntos para crear un mejor futuro para los estudiantes. Aunque los sindicatos de profesores ya han denunciado la película, la experta en educación de la Fundación Heritage Lindsey Burke ha insistido en que criticar a los sindicatos y criticar a los profesores no es lo mismo.
Criticar a los sindicatos educativos por oponerse a la reforma no se debería confundir con criticar a los profesores…Los sindicatos han bloqueado reformas tales como la paga por desempeño y las escuelas concertadas…se han opuesto a la certificación del profesor alternativo que ayudaría a que los trabajadores en mitad de sus carreras profesionales entrasen en las aulas y han luchado firmemente contra la implementación de las opciones de elección escolar para los niños.En cambio, el mensaje de Won’t Back Down es el de facultar a los padres. En la película, los padres están intentando “tomar el mando” de la escuela, haciendo referencia a un tipo de ley denominado ley de acción paterna. Siete estados tienen alguna versión de esta ley, que otorga a los padres el poder de intervenir en las escuelas fallidas. Si una mayoría de padres de una escuela quieren reformarla, estas leyes les dan la opción, a menudo incluyendo el convertir la escuela en una escuela concertada así como cambiar el personal escolar.
Las escuelas concertadas son normalmente operadas por organizaciones comunitarias sin ánimo de lucro, libres de las cargas reguladoras de las escuelas públicas. El analista de la Fundación Heritage Jason Richwine ha explicado que “Las concertadas tienen mayor libertad de acción para experimentar con distintos métodos de enseñanza, contenidos curriculares, procedimientos disciplinarios y niveles de involucración de los padres”. Por su parte, los padres han manifestado una muy elevada satisfacción con las escuelas concertadas.
El estado de la educación pública es el idóneo para una reforma. Simplemente observe las tendencias de este año:
El gasto por estudiante en la escuela pública está en su máximo histórico. A nivel nacional, el gasto promedio por alumno excede este año de los $11,400.
Las puntuaciones en los exámenes de admisión universitaria están en los niveles más bajos de los últimos 40 años. Esto es sólo un indicador de dónde se halla el sistema educativo. Burke nos recuerda que “los índices de graduación se han mantenido inamovibles desde los años 70, el rendimiento en lectura y matemáticas no ha cambiado durante ese mismo período de tiempo y los estudiantes americanos aún se encuentran en un grupo intermedio comparados con sus coetáneos internacionales”.
Los sindicatos de profesores están perdiendo afiliados. La Asociación Nacional de Educación estima que perderá 308,000 miembros en los próximos dos años.
El respaldo a la opción escolar está en su máximo histórico. El 44% de los americanos está ya a favor de permitir que los dólares del contribuyente gastados en educación acompañen a los estudiantes, permitiéndoles elegir la asistencia a una escuela privada si así lo desean. Como informa Burke, “El apoyo a la opción escolar ha saltado 10 puntos porcentuales desde el año pasado, una señal de que la proliferación de opciones tales como los bonos, las cuentas de ahorro para educación y el aprendizaje online está creando una opción que está siendo muy bien recibida por las familias de todo el país”.
Viola Davis, una de las protagonistas de Won’t Back Down, expresó recientemente un deseo compartido por muchísimos padres cuando le comentó a Jay Leno que:
Soy madre. Y como madre, tengo una niña y sé que la única manera de la que ella va a alcanzar una parte del Sueño Americano es mediante la educación. Y de modo que si esa gran educación está en una escuela pública, voy a enviar a mi niña a la escuela pública. Si esa gran educación está en una escuela concertada, voy a enviar a mi niña a una escuela concertada. Y si está en una escuela privada, la enviaré a una escuela privada. Pienso que se trata de querer hacer lo mejor para tu hijo.
